The Mathematical Methods for Sensor Information Processing (MMSIP) Department at the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies was founded in 1988 at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. During the years the team solved many theoretical and practical problems involving sensor data processing for different Bulgarian customers (Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Defense, Air Traffic Control Authorities, Sofia Technical University). The results of our research are implemented in numerous R&D projects, in the serial manufacturing of radars for meteorological, air-defense and marine surface surveillance, as well as in radar simulators and CAD systems for radar systems design and evaluation.
On July,2 2015, the Scientific council of IICT - BAS decided to integrate MMSIP with the team of Signal Processing and Pattern Recognition Department in a Department with the name Mathematical Methods for Sensor Information Processing . The team of former Department became a thematic group of MMSIP.
At present the MMSIP Department is the Bulgarian leader in design, development and evaluation of theory, methods, algorithms and software libraries in the field of smart multisensing, video analytics and artificial neural networks. Employing new mathematical approaches and cutting-edge technologies we are oriented to provide R&D products for the market solving the basic problems of our research fields. The department's team aims at the preservation and further development of research and training (Postgraduate and postdoctoral) capabilities in Multisensor Signal and Data Processing, Fusion, Pattern Recognition, and Artificial Neural Networks in the IICT-BAS, in order to harmonise them with the recent European advances in the area. We serve IT international scientific societies and NATO program - Science for Peace and Security as scientific reviewers, and as organizers of world-wide recognized scientific conferences and events.
We consider R&D in joint innovative projects with industry partners in Bulgaria and Europe as a promising area of cooperation and scientific solution verification.
The main objective is to improve the excellence in education, science and technology in our research fields.
